Triathlete, 27, becomes 5th Fully Vaccinated GTA doctor to die in July
Triathlete Dr. Candace Nayman, 27, is the fifth fully vaccinated GTA doctor to die in July. “Candace Brooke Nayman passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 competing and doing what she loved,” reads an obituary on the Benjamin’s Park Memorial Chapel.
Four other fully vaccinated local doctors have died this summer. Trillium Partners staff physicians Dr. Jakub Sawicki, Dr. Stephen McKenzie and Dr. Lorne Segall died last week, just days after the tragic death of North York General Hospital’s Dr. Paul Hannam, an Olympian who died during a run at 50 years old.
Myocarditis is a listed side effect of the mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines. Based on an analysis from Vaccine Safety Datalink, an electronic medical record–based monitoring system in the US, mRNA vaccination was associated with a substantially increased risk of myocarditis or pericarditis in persons aged 18 to 39 years, with the highest risk occurring in the 0 to 7 days following dose 2 of mRNA-1273 or BNT162b2.
The deaths of these doctors comes at the same time that Ontario is expanding its eligibility criteria for fourth doses of the COVID vaccine, with all adults now able to get a second booster if they so choose.
